What are the 2 temp sensors on for?

I am trying to add a temp gauge to my s2 diesel. There are 2 temp sensors beside the thermostat housing. I know one will be for the existing warning light. What is the other one for? And does anyone know what the thread type is on these so i can add a Tee piece for the new gauge.

picture may help bud. not quite sure which bit your mean, its a sat night though and my brain hurts so could you spell it out with a pic?
as for the thread type, i wuoldnt know without going out to go look

blue one is for the gauge, green is for the ECU

thanx.Very helpful.... Out if interest....why does the ecu need to know the engine temp on a diesel? The injector pump has its own mechanical cold start sensor.

No idea mate, im just going off the GTi stuff as i recently replaced mine :D
