i went for a good drive last night and on way home the car slighlty jolted as if it was a misfire when it did jolt the engine management light came on then back off again then carried on every now and then doing the same but gradually getting worse i bought some new plugs etc and a fuel filter but i been told by my boss that it could be coil pack as they are common to go on the 8 valves it is a 1999 1.4 8v with direct ignition and the black multi plug any help be appreciated???

Does sound like a coil pack issue. Could be worth removing it and giving it a quick clean.

No problem, being a 106 it could also be other things...
I had an issue with my Quiksilver where it was backfireing and sounded as though it was running on 3 cyclinders, with the engine light coming on and off. Left it for a few hours and it was perfect after that. Could be water on a sensor, something as simple as that.

could also be the map sensor mate, these sensors when faulty can cause a miss fire, the best thing to do is get it on as diagnostic machine, the ecu will remember the fault code wich will point you directly to the problem

the ecu will log a DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) so u can plug a relevant diagnostic interface system into it and find out what the prob was… that’s ur best bet. I think a sensor could be on the way out, read the DTC’s and u can pin point what went wrong. If u don’t want to do that, change the lamda sensor, crank sensor and see what happens. When a sensor goes wrong the ecu will recognise there`s invalid data being sent and goes into “limp mode”, a factory setting designed to get u home. During this the engine management light will flash to let u know

i changed the plugs and fuel filter and did a 100+ mile journey and still the saem only seems to do it in 2nd or 3rd it just splutters lik a misfire then will cut out then i will start it again and it is fine for another 20 mile or so i am having the coil pack tested at work on monday and if that comes back ok havein the dtc's read as we have all the releveant equipment etc at work cheers for everyones help and happy new year to everyone have a good one!!!:)

sounds similar to what mine does every now and then grrrr
im changing fuel filter cos it needs doing but also to see if it helps if not im looking at crank sensor or lamba next although the ecu when i had it tested said a misfire on cylinder 3 i think
changed coilpack for a new one but its done it since so cant be the coil pack

sounds like there's a component on its way out. my brother had a similar prob on his saxo vtr once and needed citroen to re programme the ecu
