Hello,

I've got a problem when i start my 1.1 pug 106. The battery light stays on sometimes brightly or flickering dimly depending on how long i havent driven the car.
But when i rev the car near the rev limiter the battery light goes out.

On idle the multimeter reads 11.95volts (does not move)
Near the limiter multimeter reads 14.40 but cant get propa reading as im revin it hard.

But after a long drive 10 miles or so doing aprox 50-70 mph the light goes out and stays out. I have checked the voltage after the long drive at idle.
And the multimeter reads 14.50volts

All i have done today was clean the surface area to which the battery earth cable bolts to the body. (10mm bolt) I used sand paper to remove the rust that was there, so theres no problem with the earth which i have discovered using this forum as it is a common problem with pug 106's.

I think that it needs a new alternator but it seems like it doesnt charge up on start up only way i can put it is that its being LAZY!! but after a long drive the alternator produces 14.50 volts but when i start it up the next morning the battery light stays on.

Has anyone had this problem before any suggestions Thank you X

you can get an alternator for about £15 second hand and its an easy job to change one so maybe worth changing it!

Check the earth connection on the engine/gear box also check connections on the back of alternator. Check voltage at the alternator.

I would go for the alternator. Probaly the carbon brushes in the alternator. Cost about £20 to get done. Might be cheaper replacing your 1 for another 2nd hand
