PS3, how to get online?

Good Morning! :D

Got a nice shiny PS3 yesterday, it's awesome! I want to get online on it and download the GT5 demo though. Just tried plugging the phone wire into it (looked the right shape :p) but it didn't fit.

I take it I need to buy an official Sony part to wire it up? Once I get that is there anything else I'm going to need?

all you need is an adsl line from your b band or connect wirelessly if your house is set up 4that

Mine works, its wireless......

I'm going out to buy a wireless router - seems the Internet connections I have in my house are ancient compared to the PS3 :rolleyes:

The wire that goes into your modem is RJ11. If i read your problem correct, you wouldnt be able to connect if you disconnected your modem.

Big one is RJ45 you need :)

You need to set up internet access on your PS3

Go into Settings > Network Settings > Connection Settings (me thinks)

It should then as you how you want to connect the console to the internet. For wired you need a RJ45 cable, for wireless you need a 802.11b/g router.

If you need more help PM me and i will go look at the settings because the above is just off the top of my head.

Lucky you didn't damage the pins, Happens all the time when an RJ-11 plug gets plugged into an RJ45 socket, Used to work in a computer shop and people do this alot as the modem and Ethernet ports are basically right next to each other on notebooks!!!

i have a wii, a 360, a ps3, a ps2, old xbox and an N64. only got the wii cos i was loking for a ds and a random tiny shop had ONE in stock so i just got it for the sake of it lol
