My mate hayley got rushed into hospital last night, she spent the night in A&E alone as they wouldn't let her mum stay with her. She was absolutely terrified and in a lot of pain.
Went to see her this morning in MAU, as i work at the hospital she's been admitted to and they still don't know what is wrong with her. They said she could have meningitis but could not start treating it until they had clear evidence, all this time she's getting worse. I was fuming. This is not a full ward, in fact out of 10 bays only 2 are being used.... the doctors are not being overworked.
just makes me so angry.... how can they not have a diagnosis, when she's been in there for hours?!
sorry...... rant over.....
I do sympathise with your friend and have heard alot of stories like this... although in general the NHS do a great job under terrible circumstances... dont think I would want to work in a hospital for one of the worst wage bands in the country and the threat of MRSA.
My personnal experience has been fantastic... when I was diagonised with gladular fever last year the hospital and local GP couldnt have been more helpful. And within the last 2 weeks my mum has slipped a disk in her back, shes is in so much pain and she has had numerous private consultations all paid on the NHS... an MRA scan which is £600 paid by the NHS and she may possibily have to have an operation... paid on the NHS. Although one of her friends was in a similar situation last year... and had to wait over 6 months for the same treatment my mum has experienced in the last 2 weeks.

The NHS isn't as bad as everyone says, but i deal with the complaints and incident reports everyday, anything that goes wrong or a misdiagnosis gets blamed on under-staffing, which is just a generic term used to get out of trouble. Hayley's ward is really well equipped, nurses are lovely and yet she has no diagnosis?!
But glad your mum had a good experience of the NHS... that's a plus point!
I'm definatley glad i'm getting out though, someone asked me if my new job tested my morals, and i said that it was more morally acceptable working for a drugs company than the NHS at the moment, who have so much government pressure to meet targets they can't actually 'treat' patients.... they just pass them for pillar to post.

My friend not too long ago, was having severe headaches, fainting and feeling very unwell.
on numerous occasions she and her family went too hospitals and doctors too get a reason for what was causing the problems, the answer was more or less the same nothing serious bla bla.
until one time they went in the hospital and demanded she have a scan. and yes you guessed it a tumor was present. She had an operation too remove the tumor and luckily is is well now and i mean luckily as if they had not had the operation at that time in 1 week she would have been dead.

One of my mates got in a fight, went to hospital to get treated, there was a 36 hour wait or something ridiculous.
I would not be suprised to see the health service privatised, in fact i think it would be better

For YEARS I have said they should privatise it
Abolish NHS payments, and get private insurance schemes like in the US
Nurses, doctors all get paid more, hospitals make enough money to have top of the range equipment, and you get a good service when you are injured
Those that cant afford insurance (most likely all the imigrants in the bloody country that dont pay national insurance anyway) can go wait in line at a public hospital for a few months
