as im driving along quite happily listening to music, it just cuts out, and then will start playing again in a few seconds, or skip th song completely. i think its just a cd read problem, so would trying a cd lens cleaner read cds better in the head unit? its shockproof aswell so wont be bumps or nutin. head unit is a Ministry of Sound. duno exact specs.

also the head unit heats up quite significantly. at one point it was a bit too hot to touch so was getin a lil worried. could that be due to having the heater on, or culd i have too much power running through the head unit? hooked up to it iv got 400w amp (12" mutant sub linked to amp), 2 6x9s and fronts.

info would be cool, thanks

The HU space in a 106 is pretty enclosed so the HU might be overheating m8. My sony unit runs a bit warm as well n sumtimes cuts out in the summer. U cud try getting a mini 12 volt computer style fan n wiring it across the switched feed at the back of the HU (so it only comes on when the ignition is fired up). Then vent it to behind the glovebox or somewher like that.

No worries fella. Just make sure u get a decent fan (ball bearing). Nothing worse than hearing a noisy fan whirring away in ure dash

Have you got the rubber thing screwed to the back of your headunit?
Its like a shock absorber
Mine used to cut out over small bumps when i didnt have it in

no it doesnt cut out over bumps. i tihnk it just might be a cd read error. il run a cleaning disk thru it, should be a little better

My Sony headunit sometimes decides not to play cds, sometimes it'll be playing them, and start to skip, sometimes it just decides not to play the cd at all, and it takes a lot of fannying about to get it to play.
If I feel the actual headunit, sometimes its stupidly hot, even after a few minutes playing, and I know its not just the headunit, as my first headunit was an *ahem* Acoustic Solutions headunit, and that was the same...

As i said before

The HU space in a 106 is pretty enclosed so the HU might be overheating m8.

Aftermarket HU's tend to run a bit warmer than OEM units, esp when drivin everything they are designed to drive. I know my sony unit gets pretty damn hot sometimes. Some units seem to tolerate heat build up better than others so I guess that your one didn't like it. Could be that ure lens is dirty or that the power filtering on the HU is crap n it cuts out when it gets an over/under voltage surge
