Havent got a blog for my car as I was going to start one and put a big list of photos for the last 4 years of mods (which i'll do this weekend)
But thought I'd create a little sub-blog as I am planning on doing an engine swap first week in april
I've been having a few problems with mine, plus it needs a cambelt swap, water pump and other bits. And is starting to burn oil.
Got offered a quiksilver engine that has apparently never been run (zero miles) for the bargain price of £150
Went down to the lads house in leicester last night and a little dissapointingly its a 206 quiksilver engine!
It was still cheap though and the block/head looked in mint condition so I brought it home
Its a roller rocker block but single plug ecu - so uses the old inlet port spacing
My current concern list
1) Will the engine mounts unbolt and will the 106 ones fit straight on
2) The thermostat is different, will my 106 thermostat housing bolt straight on
3) Does it have all the right sensor points for my ecu
4) The inlet manifold is completely different design but uses similar looking map sensor, throttle position sensor and idle control valve... hopefully my ecu will work with it
5) The alternator assembly has a power steering pump and possibly an air conditioning pump on it - I dont need any of that. Will my alternator and bracket fit?
So quite a few concerns - im gonna start stripping it down to a bare engine at the weekend and compare it to mine in the daylight
Have a few hopes though, biggest being that as its the early style inlet port spacing, I could run a VTR inlet manifold and throttle body for more power - or maybe even a mk1 rallye inlet manifold :D
Will update this thread at the weekend
I've taken a week off before easter to try and get it fitted so wish me luck!

Dont worry sugar I'm there on Sunday, havent forgotten about the biscuits ;)
Im not doing any of the work this weekend other than starting to unbolt bits off the 206 engine in my garage and maybe fit my rear beam powerflex bushes
I'll get it all finished for sat night though and setting off for pod on sunday at 6am :D

6am???! wow.... dedication!
Anyway...... i'm providing the biscuits, you're providing the tea!!! ;) :p
cos you'll buy the wrong biscuits!!!
you could always come down in the yaris???! LMAO

LMFAO that yaris is long gone - they were only here for a weekend thank god
If the engine swap goes well I'll end up with a virtually new quiksilver engine, with roller rocker head and old style port spacing
I'd then be tempted to buy a mk1 rallye inlet manifold and make a custom plate to mount a vtr throttle body to it :)
Gonna be a fun year..

Aye thanks to Rich who I can never thank enough for his endless amounts of knowledge - This is now getting fitted first week in april by my own hands :D
Apparently all the bits from the 206 block unbolt and all my 106 stuff fits
Will have to buy a new water pump and cam belt - but should be good

Still not 100% convinced about the alternator stuff - but I trust Rich
I think I might get a radiator in the garage and start stripping it tomorrow night
I'm too excited to wait lol
the sooner you start the better :)

Well Im becoming thoroughly disheartened with the whole job
The brake vacuum connector is snapped on the inlet manifold I got with this engine - so i've got to try to repair that or buy a new inlet
I've been offered a mk1 rally inlet for 70 notes which aint bad but i'm very close to running out of money
Got to go to town today to buy a whole roll of brake pipe, end connectors and P-clips so I can re-do my brake lines
So far on the quiky re-build (just to depress myself some more)
206 1.4 engine brand new - £150
Head gasket for engine - £20
Front powerflex bushes, new wishbones and new bottom ball joints - £100
Rear braded hoses - £20
Rear powerflex bushes - £40
Lower powerflex engine mount - £25
Copper brake line - £10
Brake line connectors - £10
Fuel vapour vent (broken while removing rear beam) - £15
Roll cage - £100
Black VTS wheels - £250
GTi Interior - £80
DTM mirrors - £30
Smokes side repeaters - £20
Pugsport exhaust - £150
Motorsport exhaust mounts - £20
and coming this week..
New water pump - £20
Mk1 rallye inlet manifold - £70
and planned for engine swap..
Random hoses, oil, brake fluid, coolant - £60
£1190!!!!
I've just had a thought about killing myself - thats half the value of the fracking car!! *cries*

*sips JD at his desk*
Not yet...
Am I mad? It cost me £700 for my MOT last september (new gearbox) - now £1200 doing a bit of a re-build
And £300 for the boot spraying
Thats £2200 in less than 6 months
The cars only valued at £3k!

the way i see it cars are like girlfriends/boyfriends you throw way too much money at them, most of which they throwe back in your face at some point, inveriably they break or have to be scrapped at some point, you will never get the money back but you will always have those 'special memories'!!! LMAO
Fuzzy Orange
27-03-2007, 11:46 AM
Special memories like the car being in bits every single weekend for 2 years :p
*cries*
I am kinda hoping if I get the engine in with ZERO miles on it, and it runs
And I get all the lines p-clipped to the car proper motorsport style
And fix the fuel lines
That I MIGHT get 2 or 3 years trouble free motoring out of it
But the doors are still rusty and blah blah blah..
God I wish I had just taken £2k 6 months ago and bought a gti

all irrelevant..... you still have one of the nicest Quiky's i've ever seen regardless of it's 'personal issues'.... and, you just feeling disheartened, you said that you had fun the other day beating the integra???!

Hehhehehehehhe *giggles*
ahh well sounds fun, ya see this is the path i was going to take with the quiky - engine, fully strip the car and re-new the lot, but then for the cash it just seems easyer to go GTI, and with less pain.
But now seen as you are almost there phil, seems abit silly to give up! my quiky has soked up a good 1k on new parts, box, headgasket, brakes and lines, mounts, and god knows how many little things like bearings and fuel rails. just life, but just think if you couldnt do the work, would cost you even more!
If it was me, and i had to keep the 1.4l think we would be goin down the s1 rallye inlet route.
Or (with a lone, haha) get some sexy throttle bodys, a cam and slap a ecu on there and thats the engine sorted no worrying about wiring. would be a GTI killer :D and it would shut leeds 106 up.
