Any sort of degreaser will remove the grease and road grime, oil and general muck thats on the engine , and chassis legs.
I used loads of rags and a long reach paint brush to do mine as really needed to get into the nooks and crannies.
It might look worse to start with once you have started , but change your rags requently and it should begin to look better within the hour ...

All the black plastic and pipe work i use megs rubber cleaner and trim detailer.

Once its clean its an easy job to wipe it over with a chamois once a week to keep it clean ...;)

haha awesome! I'm looking for stuff to help get some of the rust off. Thinking of just attacking it with a wire brush, but would added lubricant of some sort help it out?

CD2 from halfords, its a degreaser and detailer twin pack costs a tenner but well worth it imo just cover anything painted as most degreasers will strip paint

Hi,

Have started to clean my engine bay, but on the underside of the bonnett, theres material, bit like felt stuck to it... does this need to be there? Would it be bad if i took it off?

Thanks :o

you could take it off but it is protecting your bonnet from the heat from your engine

Just to reply to this thread also, my mate bought some Autoglym engine cleaner before and its absolutely superb, wont get rid of your surface rust though

After further inspection guys, looks like the rest is quite severe...as in paints coming off. So i might remove the rocker cover and either clean it up and paint it, or polish it right up. Any recommendations?
