They are better than a standard 106 obviously.;) Genuine ones need wide track kit fitted as it alters the wheel base, which is why mines not a genuine one, just a modified one.

It is getting the final sand down and any holes filled in before being prepped for paint. I have no idea how much as ive done most of it, i didn`t do the welding or fitting the front but ive done the blending in at the rear and altering the front to sit better. I paid £350 for the welding, fitting the tailgate ( as it had to be welded to the original hinges as i didn`t have any s2 hinges ) and fitting the front end including the new bonnet. Ive probably had a few hundred hours work doing the blending and altering of different bits, but ive probably saved hundreds in bodyshop bills. The secret is to forget about the cost involved, and just build something you want, as if you think about the cost then it will never happen.
dimma? dimma? prepare to have your pants pulled donw over the price.
www.hh-ms.com (http://www.hh-ms.com) is your friend its about half the price and their own maxi/dimma project is utter porn to the highest spec i think i've ever seen

do you have a picture of the wide track version???
i do have to agree 106 maxi/dimma is just porn!
i dont mind doing work myself Mat106. that inc's bodywork, welding and finishing! i always like to leave painting to the pros tho as i can never get the right finish!
what do you thin a 106 gti maxi / dimma would be worth after doing all that work and would anyone buy one?? if one was for sale?

they do look good..... but....... its a LOT of money..... it's a good idea if you're doing all the work yourself though.... would deffinately have a lot of respect for you if it does happen....! ;)

I don`t know about the value of them, the last one i saw on ebay was a 1998 gti dimma and that was up for about £6k. Doing the work yourself takes time, unless you have a workshop unlike me who built it pretty much on the driveway. Bics is full maxi spec wide track and he sent me the prices for bits and the wishbones were basically £600 and hubs, suspension, driveshafts all added up to over £2k, so i just put 20mm spacers on the front and 40mm spacers on the back. They are a lot of fun to build, but i have spent over £6k on mine doing all the work myself but that included a nearly new engine and brand new suspension with evo brakes, so if i started with a 1.6 then it would have saved some money. Realistically, it would cost about £2000 to buy and fit the kit if you did it yourself, plus paint and wheels, so if i was doing another one then i would buy a front ended gti as the bumpers and wings get replaced anyway and could have built it for around £4000 finished.

I saw that on ebay, i thought it was the same owner, i don`t understand why people buy a car and sell it straight away, i know mine will never be sold, it will rust away before i get rid of it. Was it up for more money on ebay or the same.

did it sell on ebay!
i'd seen it on pistonheads and didn't think anything of it!
thought for what i wanted would have needed a lot of work doing to it! and i might have just started off from scratch!

if your building a dimma yourself you do it for the love, once you've spent 2 years building it i don't think i'd eva sell it. i got my dimma kit for 500notes i think, just finding time to do it its the problem but im in no rust. bic's got wide track front like the maxi's but the rear is on spacers i think.
