my xsi went bang at about miday today. doh! just pulling of from a set of lights near work and it let go. still ran on 3 cylinders, so limped it the few yards to works car park. popped the bonnet to find number 3 spark plug blown out the head. the plug has been hit buy somthing. so i think it may have dropped a valve, the piston has pushed it back up smacking the plug out. daz at spoox has picked it up and took it back to his unit to strip it down tomorrow. either way it will come back better.either new cam and polished and ported whilst it's in bits, or 16v.

Unfortunate, it was pretty good spec before wasn`t it, 16 valve would be nice in it.

it was good spec mat. thats why i don't really want to go down the 16v route if i can help it. want to keep it basicly original, 8 valve, as it would be just another 16v xsi. thats not a bad thing though. at the moment it has a k&n induction kit, spoox 4-2-1 manifold, pugsport (this will still fit a 16v though), ignition advanced and mapped. it ran about 120-125 bhp. if i 16v it i go back to standard manifold and air filter (unless i up grade them, money i aint got spare at the moment). standard set up, so 120 bhp. if i stick with 8v i keep what i already have plus gain head work and a new cam. so up to about 140bhp.

i like the idea of popping the bonnet and seeing a 16v looking back at me. but i like the idea of 140bhp to. the 16v would cost me enough with out having to buy tune up parts aswell all over again.

Thats rubbish, the money ytou pay for engine to be re-done - same price as as buying a 16v engine. The money for head work etc, buys manifold and filter plus you'll have spare as its only £200 for mani and filter. The filter you have on the engine now would work ok until you got a proper one. Only reason it be more expensive if your getting work done free.

The 16v engines can be picked up cheap, easy to fit. The torque and bhp on a standard 16v would easily, probably toast a tuned 8v. Pugsport gives an additional 7bhp to the standard 125-130bhp it has, raises torque quite abit. Manifold give another good few bhp and midrange torque is outstanding *well is on my mates 16v with a 4-2-1 mani*

Have a good think about it, the tappy 8v's are for boys and 16v's are for real men! haha

i can see your point tewkes. but what i am saying is if it's only the head thats knackered, then it will be rebuilt with cam and polished/ported. if the whole engine is knackered then it might well be a 16v. but i am very good mates with daz and ben at spoox. i will talk about my options with them when i know more.

Lets put it this way... if mine ever goes its getting ripped out and a valver dropping in..

you could be looking at a new piston, rings, head, valves and you could of gashed the bore....

if the head comes off you looking at new stem seals, skim, grind valves in, cam seal and headgasket....

Think you should go 16v mate ;D

It holds much more potential and much better torque

Agreed the torque is so much better on the 16v, I also heard aswell if you slap a cam in the 8v it will give more top end power and be shitter off acceleration. Dont qoute me just what iv benn told ;D

sorry i aint been on for a while been busy. as you can guess. all that had happened to the head was plug number 3 had popped out and took the threads. on a strip down we found the cam had some wear and some slight scratch's along the lobes. i'm having a phase 2 1.6 rallye head, stripping it down to be polished and ported. 286 degree cam, new head gasket, cam belt, 3 angle seat valves, head bolts....... full re-build. when i get it back in about 2 weeks it should be up to about 140bhp. i wanted a engine re-build this year anyway. has come a bit sooner though lol. i perhaps couuld of had a 16v for about the same price, but it would of been another 16v xsi. i wanted mine to be a bit different, and keep it 8 valve as it was when it left peugeot.
