Here we go again lol, Got most of it on another site so can copy and paste it over ;D

........
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok so the design...only have a few simple ideas in my head, want to try and make it all standard looking though, nothing too fancy and in your face, going down the OMP stealth look, which should fit the euro theme im going for well *fingers crossed*

So yeah.. the basic plan...1x 12" sub, 1x mono amp, 1x 2 channel amp, 1x set of components, 1x PS2, 1x screen and any other things i might come up with over the next few months...

il update the thread everytime i do something new or worth mentioning about, it wont be fast moving unfortunatly but it should make a good read on those boring and cold winter nights

Will start off the story in the next thread......ENJOY :)

The back seats are out so theres plenty of room to play with..(picture - your use imagination)

The sub box will be similar to this one
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v329/Dargs/Quiky%20BQ%20ICE/XXXBOX.jpg

Thats in a 205 so you get an idea of the size

....

Will be putting a flase floor in and using that as a base. Havent really decided on how the amps will be going in yet.

....

Componenets will be housed in custom door builds and pillar builds.. undecided on finish yet.

....

Screen will be housed in the centre console, replacing the 2 vents and the heater switchs which will be re-located.

....

Undecided where the PS2 will be mounted yet, more than likely in the front passenger side area though.

....
Heres some work i started earlier on in the year before i got the quiky.

Spare Centre console and tray
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v329/Dargs/Quiky%20BQ%20ICE/02SpareCentreConsole.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v329/Dargs/Quiky%20BQ%20ICE/01SpareCentreTray.jpg

Dis-assmlbled it bla bla bla (use your imagintaion :D )

Smoothed all of it down
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v329/Dargs/Quiky%20BQ%20ICE/06CentreConsoleSmoothing.jpg

And cut out the heater vents and control panel

Sorry dude might have got it wrong just always remember this crazy spl comp pug 106, had a stoopid system inside, could flip coins inches off the roof, used to bounce th sunroof outa the seals... Always thought it was called the juggernaut but that may have been the make of subs. Im going back a few years was around 1999 - 2000 i think, maybe earlier. Will have to ask my mate hes probably still got the feature. Was mental anyway, saw it once in town, was also on hydraulics!!! Was bloody crazy any how

U P D A T E

Usually sunday is car wash today but the weathers been crap so thought id do some more work on the install!

Decided to get cracking on the A pillar builds for the tweeters.

First up was to get the positioning of the tweeter cups, believe or not this took ages ..Mainly due to them needing to be ear height and aiming towards the centre point of the car...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v329/Dargs/Quiky%20BQ%20ICE/250207A.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v329/Dargs/Quiky%20BQ%20ICE/250207C.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v329/Dargs/Quiky%20BQ%20ICE/250207E.jpg

but after messing around for a while moving them mm at a time they were finally ready to glue to the pillars! The firing of both meet in the centre of the passenger and driver around nose point (just before the ears) so should sound pretty fookin sweeeet

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v329/Dargs/Quiky%20BQ%20ICE/250207N.jpg

Anyways.. got them both glued up with a glue gun!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v329/Dargs/Quiky%20BQ%20ICE/250207O.jpg

Then i needed to find some donor material to stretch over, so after rummaging around i found an old climacool tshirt which i thought would do the job perfect

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v329/Dargs/Quiky%20BQ%20ICE/250207M.jpg

Time to stretch it over....(this took fu*king ages! )

Cheers Dan.

The pillars only need the resin and hardner, i havent used any fibreglass :p

Only used fibreglass on the screen which was easy as it was only a small area.... big areas are a mother fooka! Had experience with it with my last install aswell so kinda know a couple of tricks to using it ;) ..the main 1 being not too mix up loads of resin and hardner at at a time!!

Dan C
25-02-2007, 10:50 PM
i fancy making something to hold a screen infront of the ash tray, like blend up from the centre console thing on the floor where that big tray is. Which way would you go about that?

Dargs
25-02-2007, 10:58 PM
Same way really, wooden frame then some sort of wooden sides and trim it, could use fibreglass but it wouldnt be the easiest of things. Ud have to cut the centre console tray up aswell to hold your frame in etc..

Managed to get to the stage i wanted today, got alot of sanding coming up though! Oh the joys

Heres how the day went..

Passenger pillar all done, and holes cut out
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v329/Dargs/Quiky%20BQ%20ICE/260207A.jpg

Went out and got myself a nice big tub of P38, and then the filling began (first time ive done it so ignore the uneven/silly amounts)... i am learning from my mistakes tho !!

Drivers pillar

i dont know what finish you going for on thous, but looks like they is a few indents! if your covering with fabric dont worry!

if your painting you will need to spary a coat of paint over the top of it then rub it donw till you only see black bits where it is low. then refil rub down paint in a different colour and do the process again! this assumes you have used black as the first paint coat!

should always rub with a block aswell to make sure everything is even! all depends on the finish your looking for! you can do this about 3 or 4 time each time witha different 'tracer coat' to allow you to work out how far the problem is!

looking forward to the results!

UPDATE
Progressed quite alot today, manged to get the door builds underway, although i did throw all my toys out the pram for about 2 hours trying to stretch the material over this afternoon, neither to say a jd & coke well deserved tonight lol.

The A pillars pretty much just need smoothing to get a good finish ready for trimming.

Heres the progress pics of the door builds anyway..

Attacked the passenger door first, took awhile to get the right position and get it all glued together but got there in the end..

lol yea best to give em to an expert if we cant do em :p what i did on my last ones, the testers- back in the summer, was because i ended up wiv a massive crease on the curved bit around the speaker, i made a cut below the speaker and jointed it underneath where it coulnt be seen. It looked quite good tbh!

Only a small update this week due to having to sort out the exhaust/bodywork situation, pics show the progress :)

Fillered the door pods to get rid of a few tiny dips and to blend in where the fabric ended and then gave them a test fit the weekend...

great thread Dargs, had fun looking at all the progress!

only issue that comes to mind is driving a stripped car with an install?
how do you plan to keep the install in place with no rear seats holding it all back?
and also does it notr defeat the purpose of stripping (for weight saving) to then add all teh weight back on with box's and sound deadning?

not trying to be negative or picky just wondering what your aim was

Dargs
13-03-2007, 10:39 PM
Cheers Tony

A false floor will be to fit exactly where it should and then il probly make some brackets or something to hold it down, there hsouldnt be too much movement anyways.

A large install has always been on the cards since way back from when i owned my last 106, but when i got the quiky i got shot of all my old gear and decided to start from scratch, but didnt have the money because of getting the suspension, alloys etc sorted so decided i would have fun driving it around stripped for a few months. Now ive had my fun racing it around its time for fun in a diffrent way :D

Not to bothered about performance as you can see anyways with not having an induction kit and not getting an exhaus until it was neccesary. Planning to just start with a GTi next year and make that a pocket rocket ;)

Plan for the quiky this year is to go chase a few audio heads, and hopefully hit around 140db!

How do you attach the material (both the stuff you stiffen with resin and the surface material) to the pillars? Can you just use a t-shirt to put the resin on?

Dargs
09-05-2007, 09:44 PM
Cheers for the comments lads

Hugh, first material layer is strecthed over tight and pinned behind, A t-shirt could be used, all depends how much stretch you need i suppose. Finish material is stuck on using evostick timebond..just glue

You know the resin, where can you get it from? saw some in a garage today but it was together with sheets of fibreglass. Is it the same stuff or is the resin you use another type? Do you need hardener with it to mix together or does it come straight out of the tin? Any brands I should look out for??

Dargs

Cheers guys!

Hugh - I just used the resin they sell at halfrauds, and yes you need the hardner aswell. Mix them together and then slap it on

UPDATE

Finished off the passenger pod today, end result turned out pretty good! Thought it would be easier than a pillar but it was harder :( Got there in the end though! Just 1 pod to go now wayheey.

Passenger footwell floor is also ready for perspex/trimming now, had carpet turn up today but the colour match aint good enough so im gunna order some charcoal coloured tonight! No pics unfortunatly but will get some soon.

heres the pod anyway..
