Flat it back with wet and dry then brought the shine back by polishing it up with t-cut and wax. Planning on trying it on a panel tomorow.

I wouldn't have thought doing it by hand would be very good? :/

sorry to say it but leave it to the profesionals, you'll end up burning through with a machine polisher if your not confident or even burning the paint if you get the panel to hot causing burn marks and blistered paint.

Also alot of OE paint from the factory is very thin so alot easier to rub through on when flatting back.

If you do decide to give it ago yourself use 1500 wet'n'dry if its really bad orange peel and then finish with 2000 wet'n'dry before polishing.

You'll need an abrasive mop along with an abrasive polish such as G3 which is what most bodyshops use. Then you want a soft sponge mop to finish it off with some G10 which takes out all the swirls that the abrasive polish has left in the paint which should leave a very good finish. then just finish it off with some normal polish and wax of your choice.

I'e done that on most my cars and friends car and it leaves a nice glass type finish.

I was using 1200 wet and dry then started polishing it back up. It was starting to shine but i was getting tired lol, really nice finish though, no orange peel or swirl marks. I never leave anything to the "proffesionals" ;)

I'll go shopping on tues tommy, see what i can cook up.

Before you attempt this you need to measure the thickness of the paint on the car before sanding. Otherwise you could end up sanding through.

You need something a bit more like 2000 grit or higher....takes a little longer but leaves a lot less sanding marks. Will still need machining after (unless you wanna end up like popeye!) to get rid of the matt finish.

Best thing is to get a scrap panel to test your skills and the process. Once your ready to tackle your own car, go to a paint shop and get them to measure the depth of paint on your car. Saves spending £500 or so on a paint depth gauge!
