Maybe the previous owner removed them. is the rear arch round or square.

The main way of telling the diffrence is the rear arches on an xsi will be round and the xs is flat, Also check your engine to see if there a row of injectors, but this aint always accurate as it may have had a engine transplant.

The xs had no kit fitted and the xsi always had it. If your front and rear wings have holes in the mount the kit then someone has removed it. This is an xsi wing without the kit fitted.

there is no holes in the wings at all it looks like aSingle point injection but all the docs say 106 xsi and when i got it the bottom and the bumpers had been sprayed sliver n the rest black

Theres no way thats an xsi - not with single point injection
It will just be an XS probably - really old style 1.4 engine made about 60 bhp :(

If its an xsi it will be multipoint injection and 100bhp
If its an xs they are spi and apparently make 75bhp (god knows how on crappy SPi)
Get a pic of the engine and i'll tell you once and for all
Oh and the guy who knows loads about pugs and says its a change over year
Ask him if he's drunk
The XS and XSi were made at the same time - the change over saw the XSi get ditched for the GTi
That wouldnt explain how you got an xsi with no kit and flat rear arches
MY GUESS is that its a 1.4 xs or a 1.1 shell that someone has transplanted a 1.4 XSi engine into - and then had the log book changed :)

Saying that though Fuzzy i saw an XSi on autotrader which was a phase2 106... It had the phase1 bump strips??
So either that was a change over car or someone had stuck phase2 lights on it... it was a 1996 P reg as well :)
Peugeot and there change over cars eh :D

Thats not true the phase 2 is an XS people say it xsi to make themselves look flashy. ;D As far as i know the only XSi was the phase 1's

It's not as the Phase 2 XS' have flat arches! This had the full xsi kit on it

No it wasn't a phase 2 XS as they have the flat arches! It had the full XSi kit on..

You dont get my point
The change between S1 and S2 was the shape of the car not whether or not it had arch extensions on it
That was the difference between an xs and xsi
So the year changeover won't have any impact on that at all
Its most likely an XS with an XSi engine transplanted in
Or its just an XS :)

I do get your point....( i was on about this dodgy xsi i found on autotrader)
It was either a Phase 2 XS with phase1 XSi arches and the owner had listed it wrong...
Or it was a very late Phase 1 XSi with phase2 lights.
Both Phase 1+2 xs' have the flat arches and there was only an XSi built in the phase1 years...
This probably makes no sense but nevermind :D
