Been a few DnB mashups with Prodigy songs recently (ish).

Sub Focus remix of Smack My Bitch Up.
Pendulum did a live remix of Voodoo People.

I'm not a massive fan of Pendulum* but damn, it sounds good if you're rinsing it out :D Blood Sugar sounds quality on max. volume. As for Prodigy.. legends. Was a mahoosive fan back in the day. Then I decided punk was me and now I'm a complete DnB head. Random.

* i.e. when Pendulum "Slam" comes on in a regular night club and people think they're the pinnacle of DnB. Grr :p

Love them both. Prefer Pendulum's earlier stuff though as they have gone more 'commerical' now which is a shame, but then again commerical is the way to make more money these days...

Seen both of them live Pendulum are class and will chuck in some reet warpers. As for Prodigy saw them at Carling Academy in Brixton and well.....only one word for it AWESOME! Keith Flint is a legend in his own right, forking nutter gets the crowd going :D

I prefer more underground D&B beats, darker stuff..have you ever been to a Vlave sound system it's the biggest rig in Europe...they even give ear plugs out on entry. If you haven't seen Lemon D or Dillinja before i'd definately give them 2 guys a big rate :)

I used to be well into pendulum but they're a bit commercial now, i'm not one to stop liking something just because everyone else does but they changed their style, now its all overplayed.

DnB scene seems to be getting bigger and bigger since i was into it. Really can't stand half of the stuff these days.

yeh they are wicked! Pump them up on a regular occasion (usually nightime motorway drivin - 2 keep me awake!), yeh pendulum have gone well commercial, shame but just how it is. Makes me angry when u ask someone u into dnb and their like pendulum are wicked - SHUT UP, u dont like dnb if its only pendulum! Yeh Melissa, valve is wicked, serious sound system, its all about lemon d, dillinja, andy c, etc! Also, fabric in london is mad, saw scratch perverts, high contrast and dizzee all in one nite! Seen pendulum on a few occassions but only seen them perform their album when at glastonbury! Was mad 2 b fair, threw the shapes like a mother f**ker!

Been a Prodigy fan from waaaaaaaaaay back in the Experience days, still prefer their older stuff to the latest couple of albums.

I've not really heard much Pendulum apart from the Hold Your Colour album...Any recommendations I should hunt out ?

dont know how you can say pendulum are going commercial, they released 2 tunes into the charts to make a bit of money now they play live more than they dj. (live as in bloke on drums, guitars etc proper band style.)

search youtube for a new years eve show in perth, its soooo good.

Nope they are deffo going more commercial. But then again i think Size went pretty big commerical. I do miss alot of Goldie's stuff, we went to one of his big wood parties in Lincolnshire, i can vouch it was rather crazy LOL.
Dill & Lemon D are my upright heroes though love their choice of track selection and their production is still running high. I don't get to go to many D&B nights anymore but Dillinja is in Lincoln on the 12th October!! I used to travel every weekend to Ports, and London to go to the likes of Fabric.

I love Basslines altogether, i'm a real Niche girl at heart and well so most of my nights are spent in Sheffield

personally wouldnt say they were commercial, they dont claim to be drum and bass dj's/producers its just what they get dubbed. their essential mix on radio 1 is still the best 2 hours of music ive ever heard, listen to it weekly and never get bored of it.

i dont think they are going commercial, like mikey said they wanted amoney boost and they got it. now they are just like any DnB DJ or MC they just stick to there raves which is were they should be.

Melissa
19-09-2007, 01:31 PM
Every has their own opinion but as stated before it's the D&B the 'don't knowers' play down McDonalds car parks and claim to be big D&B fans...*yawn*

mikey_b
19-09-2007, 02:17 PM
that doesn't make it commercial, its not their fault is it!

Ste
19-09-2007, 02:44 PM
have to agree with mikey i dont see pendulum as commercial they've just been slapped with a label if they went commercial there would be a massive overload of mix cd's etc that are utter gash and have pendulums name on it to sell it for a quick couple of quid, when it comes to d&b for me its all about all the older stuff for me

prefer all the earlier prodigy stuff to the more previous material aswell experience and jilted generation are two amazing albums

you definately cant beat either act to give you a massive rush especially when driving :D

When tracks are played on commercial stereo, when tracks are released on commerical music TV, when tracks are relased on commercial CD's yes it is being over commercialised  They don't have to have it air played on these if they didnt want to be as the money goes back to them everytime their track is played or used....Royalities

As stated before this is 'my opinion' sorry i even spoke:rolleyes:

Melissa

I'm not slating them, i think they've done some awesome work and they're fantastic to watch live but money is sometimes part of the game in the industry

im not getting arsey about it lol, i personally dont think pendulum are commercial. i mean would they be heading where they are now if they wanted to be commercial? nope

they just released 1 track into the charts a few years ago and another recently - im not one to dislike somebodys music just because there is alot of other people that like it, alot of people into dnb/dance music feel the need to be "elite" and dislike commercial music, however good it is.

talking about people like dillinja, his music is brilliant and is how dnb is supposed to be, pendulum IS NOT dnb.

Ste
19-09-2007, 02:59 PM
aslong as they keep producing the goods and dont get lazy and start firing out utter bollocks because they are now "superstars" i'm not too bothered

radio has a bad habit of bringing underground music to the mainstream and playing it till it looses all meaning :( its just a part of life isnt it

Melissa
19-09-2007, 03:02 PM
I don't feel the need to be elite tbh i hardly go to dNb raves anymore and i'm much more into the speed garage scene. like i said each to their own, i think they've set out being commerical so a winder range of people hear their music so it sells better on the market, you don't. End of. I did a 2 years course of CMTT so i do know alot about marketing back plans of alot of artists, and my Daughter's Dad was quite well known in his time and had releases..

Am i going to get a smacked arse if i say that Pendulum produce quality but sometimes 'commercialised break beat tracks' ;) I love a wide range of music and believe it or not i used to be a regular at Wigan Pier, the shame! HaHa

so quite a few people like them. as rubys2106 said. i was listening to them both last night driving up to york. 4 hours straight from oxford (left oxford at rush hour). awesome motorway driving music.
ive liked prodigy since i can remember. and i think fat of the land was the second album i ever bought (after will smith) and i prefer their old stuff.
yeh, voodoo remix is immense.
i agree with mikeys views. im not going to pretend to be the biggest oldest fan but was introduced to them abut a year ago by a roomate and i do love them. and when slam or tarantula come on it gets the whole club going.
look forward to seeing them soon

with the introduction of "downloading" mp3s chart status for anyone "underground" or not is kind of unavoidable. And really if it were me and there was more money availble Id do it, if your passion is music, its not cheap. Studio equipment etc, and both pendulum and prodigy use real material to not just the wonders of computer software like reason and cubase. They were after all a falling rock band before the dnb. So why not. The whole "underground" thing with any type of genre is a bit of a fantom anyway. As for prodigy thankfully they were the ones making what was called Acid music get enough status for things like "raves" legal......

The whole underground thing makes me laugh, it costs at leat £6 for a white label (promo release) anyway and people want them each week so no-one with any talent is going to stay "underground" for long....
