Just been offered a set of these
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Citroen-saxo-xsara-vts-15-inch-alloy-wheels-and-tyres_W0QQitemZ230075286251QQihZ013QQcategoryZ9888 QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Three pretty good tyres on and one that will defo need replacing as it is slashed.

Think i might get them and put them on and get the original alloys sprayed black.

What you think?

Maybe someone could photoshop them on my car???

Cheers

I'd forgotten how good my car drives on 15's aswell
The extra weight kinda helps in wet weather - and makes the steering feel a bit more positive :)

They currently have 195/50/R15 on.

Phil, What have you got on yours / going to put on yours??

Fuzzy Orange
09-01-2007, 03:38 PM
That'll be a bit of a problem
Thats 205 fitment - I had some tyres that size on my 15's once - car handled like shit and rubbed everywhere

Correct fitmend for a 106 is 195/45/15
I've got some federal things on - I'd never heard of them but nice V pattern and handle really well in the wet

Fuzzy Orange
09-01-2007, 03:39 PM
I got these... http://ssl.delti.com/cgi-bin/reifenbestellen.pl?typ=R-133902&dsco=10

£37 a tyre aint bad

Quiksilver_TR
09-01-2007, 03:45 PM
Will have to get me some 195/45's then.
£37 aint bad. I shal have word with a mate of mine of works for Ebly tyres and see what he can get me then. :P

Fuzzy Orange
09-01-2007, 03:49 PM
Thats why I snapped my mates hand off for £200

Tyres were gonna cost me £120 on their own lol
I do really wanna get mine sprayed black - was looking at them at lunch time LOL

Quiksilver_TR
09-01-2007, 03:54 PM
Id have thought they would have been the same as they came off a saxo??

Aw well, not that much of a bargin after all! LOL!

Fuzzy Orange
09-01-2007, 04:01 PM
Some people use 50 profile
but its really not right

they rub on full lock on my car

You could try them thought mate - but if you want handling which is really really fun - get 45 profiles ;)

That's odd - I've got 195/50/15's on my cyclones and I don't have any problems with them - Infact, I can hardly tell the difference between those and the steelies

I'm going to get 195/45/15's soon though, just because it will look better

Fuzzy Orange
09-01-2007, 04:23 PM
Oh right

Well I bought some 15" alloys from a 205 in 195/50/15 profile and they were fecking awful - lost grip everywhere

45's are definatly better - my car grips LOADS more on 45/15's than my old 185/55/14's ;)

Rallye James
09-01-2007, 04:27 PM
My 50's are bald anyway - hence why I've been on steelies the last couple of weeks. 45's will be coming soon ;)

Quiksilver_TR
09-01-2007, 07:31 PM
45's it is then. Shall try and get them sorted before the weekend!

Have you had a quote yet for refurb? i just got some gti alloys and im considerin sprayin them?!

Fuzzy Orange
10-01-2007, 01:10 AM
Oh don't get me f-ing started

I've given up in the mornings - I know go out through retford then dunham bridge - cant even be arsed trying gainsborough bridge at 8.30am *mumbles*

I think they ask about £120 for 4 wheels mate
But i hear they do a properly good job, blasted down, acid dipped, sanded, all chips and bits repaired, then powder coated or sprayed

I'll get some money saved up and go get mine done anthracite!

Buying some recliner bucket seats in a few weeks though LOL

Dan C
10-01-2007, 01:13 AM
Ha Ha, i thought of you when i heard on the radio that the tailbacks over the bridge were a few miles lol

£120 doesn't seem too bad. Looks like you've got a bit of saving to do then!

Fuzzy Orange
10-01-2007, 01:16 AM
£300 for a pair of reclining buckets

£120 for wheel respray in anthracite
£300 for front end respray

Told you all i'd have it looking mint for the shows though :p

Quiksilver_TR
10-01-2007, 07:33 AM

Fuzzy Orange

All that money LOL

£300 boot respray, £100 gti interior, £200 alloys, £120 alloy refurb, £300 reclining buckets, £300 front end respray
And I've still got to source a vtr engine and MINT my engine bay LOL

Just ordered me the new tyres so all being well they will be on on Saturday afternoon.
Cost £150 for 4 tyres balanced, fitted, VAT etc. Nothing special, just some middle of the road make???
Went for all 4 then I can get them on straight away.

Fuzzy Orange
11-01-2007, 11:21 AM

Another technical questions regarding these rims;

Should really be this close???
http://www.106owners.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=261.0
Going to look at spacers today I think. ???

One specific for Fuzzy,
Do yours rub the front brake hoses when on full lock?
Mine do. If yours dont what have you got different? ???

Cheers.

Fuzzy Orange
16-01-2007, 09:20 AM
I'll take pics at weekend mate - but yeah thats fine
Welcome to the world of 6.5" wide wheels ;)

The front definatly shouldnt rub on the brake lines at all though mate - can you get a pic of what you mean with that so I can advise further :)

James.G
16-01-2007, 10:54 AM
as i said on the other thread TR hopefully some spacers on the back would sort that out :)

Quiksilver_TR
16-01-2007, 11:05 AM
Phil, cheers. I shall have to get some photos later.

Cheers guys

Fuzzy Orange
16-01-2007, 11:46 AM
The problem with the back is that the drum rear beam fitted to quikys is about 20mm shorter than a gti disc beam

So the wheels sit 10mm closer to the car on both sides

Its not usually a problem unless they are 18mm offset then they rub on the inner arch and beam and plates :(

You can fit 8mm spacers (which I have for sale) to pad them out which also makes them look better - but if you do that you really need to get 8 longer bolts otherwise there is a risk they could snap off :(

James.G
16-01-2007, 12:14 PM
that a good idea, i wouldnt mind wacking some spacers in mine to pad them out, as you said it would look better.

and would it help stop the back from sliding? as its wider?

only problem with me is, my tyres sit in my rear arches.... so any wider they might rub.. :-[

mikey_b
16-01-2007, 12:21 PM
i thought my rear alloys looked different on the quiksilver compared to gti, good info phil!

Quiksilver_TR
17-01-2007, 07:36 AM
Heres the pictures;

This shows the passenger side wheel with the brake hose extended straight as the wheels are turned to the left
http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g22/Quiksilver_TR/170107_Brake_3.jpg

this one show the drivers side wheel with the brake hose begining to coil up which causes it to rub when on full lock with the wheels turned to the left.
http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g22/Quiksilver_TR/170107_Brake_4.jpg
http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g22/Quiksilver_TR/170107_Brake_5.jpg

I know that they aint the best pics as it was quite difficult to get a decent pic with the wheels on full lock as you cant see much.

Cheers

Fuzzy Orange
17-01-2007, 08:14 AM
Got ya

Whats happened is who ever fitted your brak calipers has got one of the lines twisted

If you jack it up, remove that wheel, then remove the two 19mm bolts on the back of the caliper you'll be able to turn it round one way to straighten the brake hose then bolt it back on

Quiksilver_TR
17-01-2007, 08:54 AM
Right I see.

I shall have to do this at the weekend then. Just take it steady for now and try not to rub the hose away!

Cheers
