Ok.... the front speakers have now been abused :( to the max so its time to get off my ass and sort out some rears....

I don't want them in the parcel shelf...because i just dont!
I wanna plonk them in my rear doorcards but just after as much info as possible really before i attempt the unthinkable..for a lady anyways..''DIY'' :p

I figure I've got ample room to work with ... just any tips on where to place them? Perhaps pics of other Zest rears? Lol...

Quiksilver and GTi's come with rear speakers standard don't they? so is it possible to just replace with rear doorcards from either of them? I can't see any major difference in them....

And I also spotted 'deadening' of which I think I've stumbled across some at work i could bring home with my five finger discount card ;) Just ain't got the foggiest to where and how to put it ....

I spent yesterday correcting the wirey mess...aka the loom....that the previous owner CHEWED, SWALLOWED and REGURGITATED for me  So all soldered and pretty looking....the rear speaker wires are ready to go....

I was chuffed to pick up my Alpine ipod ready unit for £80  and now its just a case of sorting some decent rears and fitting them in

Any feedback will be greatly appreciated guys and gals!!

:D Zed x

if your fronts are broke? why you getting rears? you dont sit in the back do you ;)

i would get some decent front ones first. then go to the rear after.

and yea the GTI/quickies come with rear speakers, only 10cm tho.

Sit in the back? Me? I'm not sure what you are implying Mister James!;)

Anyhows...

So the rear doorcards of a Gti are the same as the rear doorcards of a Zest..?
That's what I'm trying to get at i think....

The front's aren't a problem are they. Just a case of 'plonkin' in a new pair. But the rear's need a hole to sit theirself in

Am i right to say Hertz is the way to go for when i save up enough Queen E coins to buy some?

yes those hertz are really good !!!! and a pretty much straight swap.

have a look in dargs progress then in the ice section i think, for an idea of the rear door cars. or naths in the project tuscan thread. then you will be able to see the difference.

ill have a look now for you.

i wasnt implying anything :p

There is absolutely NO POINT in getting rear speakers. Just save up and get the best front speakers you can afford (preferably amped). James meant that you sit in the front, so you want sound in the front, not from behind you. As for sound deadening, if its sticky sheets (like dynamat etc) then you could put then around the speaker area on the front doors.

just noticed aswell that the 1.1s dont have anywhere to put them in the rear door cards so you would have to cut holes out.

if i where you i would save and get some really good hertz front compents and they will be fine.

I knew what he meant Hugh lol. It was just friendly banter that i played along with. Lol.

Indeed I'm saving for some decent fronts. But still fancy a little... umpf ...in the rear. For the benefit of the passengers of course James :)

And i may be a lady but i also figured that the deadening would kinda have to be remotely CLOSE to the speakers (eyeroll) just unsure how much was required to do the job.... And if there was anything to watch out for...

Cheers for the quick response from the pair of you though!!

Lmao @ James...

That was what i was getting at! Where to place the holes of which i was planning to cut out of my hole'less doorcards ! :(

Seems all I've done so far in this post is confuse people! Ha ha

Didn't mean to offend or anything :)

It may seem boring but the best setup will be a sub, front comps and an amp for it all. Basically, screw the passengers, because they aren't always there and it will change the sound stage in a negative way. A good set of comps will fill the car with sound anyway.

As for sound deadening, I wasn't sure which type you meant. Could have meant loft insulation stuff, in which case it only fits in the recesses behind the rear panels.

if it were me id source a set of quiksilver/gti (saxo vtr/s westcoast?) rear cards and just uprate the speakers into the standard holes for them plus they offer a pretty good direction of fire ;)

do the fronts first though, ideally a set of components and mount the tweeters on each corner of the dash :D

yup all the best cars only run front speakers more speakers doesn't mean better sound just another driver in the car to confuse sound why would you want 4 speakers playing the same thing in 4 corners of the car (unless running dolby 5.1) hitting your ears from all differnt angles and time delays

The hertz speakers are selling them selves now due to quality and being a musically fun speaker, wheather it'd be the entry level right the way through to the competition stuff.

If speakers are essential in the rear i got a set of door cards in the shed i think well i know i got 1 at least.

i agree with the lads there hun. ive got a decent set of front comps and ive had no need to upgrade my back ones. get the front sorted and see what you think. if you do decide to upgrade the fronts then id recommend you make or buy yourself a mdf speaker ring, as it sounds lot better than scewing it directly to the metal.

i have £50 comps, amped, with tweeters in the front of my xsi... and they sound amazing! and a 12" sub in the boot...

turned off the internal amp on my alpine HU to maximise power
