ive seen some really nice 106s on here, n while mines nuthin that special, i fort id share my current progress with u.
my car started out as a standard 106 graduate i got the car for £600 35k miles of a relative, it is my first car but it was perfect for me when i was learning, and once i passed my test i decided to change it, as the standard looks were pretty boring, heres a few pics of what it looks like at present

actually ill just state the fings ive done so far,

i first of all wanted rid of my steel wheels, they were buckled to **** lol 13" pretty uncomfortable aswell, so i opted for some titan 15" rogue alloys 3 stud :D lol they dnt look too bad tho but am finkin bout swapping with my mate for his compomotive white 3 studs.
I debadged it, de locked the boot as i found it was so easy to break into the car as once i locked my keys in the car and dint have a spare used a flat head and boot was open in a couple a seconds. i de stripped it aswell. and de wipered it to make it all smooth.
I then tarted up the interior pics to come of my steering wheel, i got an omp one, together with omp gear knob and a quick shift kit but isnt fitted yet this will be put on when my new engine is in place. which is a vtr one,i cnt afford the insurance on a gti, so ill keep dreaming lol
i then fort about a single wiper, this was an absolute whore to put on but looks heaps better, even tho the black blade that came with it was shite so i bort a isotta double spoiler one in chrome even tho i wanted black but they only did it in chrome.
I then fort bout lowering the car, and got a spax saxo kit for cheap from work, lowering the car 40 mm, altho i found that i got quite a bit a rubbin on my wheel arches which really fucked me off so i had to have em sorted out at the bodyshop.
i then fort bout some bumpers and opted for a gti rear bumper and an gti arch and skirt kit which was fitted but since have taken it off as i dint like it much so i soldand bort a series 2 arch fender kit of ebay which made the car look more subtle.
I then got an xsi bumper which came in an awful state:( paint runs everywhere so i spent a good week rubbin it down n spraying it up to perfection neway shall stop blabbering on n show u a few pics:

thats the rear with the gti bumper u cnt see it but i also have an xsi spoiler, lol dint realise u had to have the holes in the glass to fit that tho, so i sourced an xsi tailgate especially for that.

another pic of the rear.

that was when i was sorting out my xsi bumper.

http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s312/lee19871/DSC00275.jpg

the finished result which dint all look too bad i fort, considering it was only sprayed with cans from halfords, or halfrauds as u lot call em lol, i unfortunately work there but only for cheap car parts at the present, i should hopefully be workin for bt soon.

http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s312/lee19871/DSC00278.jpg

the finished result looked heaps better. and i dint manage to get some genuine foglights but chose some ones made by ring n they looked similar so dint look all too bad.

btw if you notice the air vent on the bonnet that was my mates idea cus i had a hole in my bonnet not by me by my auntie i dnt quite no how she managed to get a hole in the bonnet but had to cover it up somehow lol.

yeah its lowered 40 mil at the mo n i was finkin bout doin it 60 but i mean it rubbed quite a bit on 40 so i duno what itll be like at 60 lol? and i got arch fender extension kit on there but there black so u cant see em, im hopefully gettin my mate do a full respray on her over the summer so hes gona do the arches then for me, i mite revert bk to the gti arch kit but i duno i liked the arches but dint like the sideskirts with em, but then if u just have the arches they dnt look right so thats y i got the arch fender extension kit.

Nice progress, i still would have fitted the gti arches and skirts, that is if you have genuine gti skirts. You can modify them so that you don`t need skirts if you have time and patience if you really don`t like them. Obviously i would say gti ones are good as mine has them but i like them better than the ones that are on it now.

About the lowering, have you uprated the shocks aswell? If not then thats prob why its rubbing so much, they need to be stiffer. If they still are then you prob just need to grind off the inner lip of the rear arch.

Nice progress mate.

The GTi arches n skirts are perfect, duno y u took them off.
And as for rubbing...are those wheels the correct offset?
And are your running 195,45 tyres?

Im down 60mm and i have no rubbing.

nah my shocks are up rated like i say i got a whole spax kit, adjustable softness one. and the shocs are adjusted to as hard as they can, but you did mention a very valid point i have tires that are 55, do you recon with a lower profile tire they wudnt rub as much? it only rubs when i go round corners really fast. but does get annoying, n yeah i ve had the inner lip grinded of the arch that was done at the body shop, so i recon if i got 45 tires wat u recon?

If they are 195/ 55 then im sure they will do a part ex as car like the 306 has them size on the cyclones. I got some 195/ 45 15`s for £40 each so they are not too dear compared to the 195/ 40 16`s i had before at nearly £100 each.

Absolute goons. People at car places i.e halfords, etc etc often have no idea what their talking about.

20-02-2007, 10:05 PM
yeah i mean i sed to em wats the best tires to go for they sed continentals n they gave me 55 profiles n at first i was like they look kinda high but they sed theyll make it stick to the road better, like yeah right lol i mite go down there 2mo n se if theyll take my old ones in part exchange.

Pm fuzzy he recommended some tyres the other week.

I, and quite few other people have Toyo proxies,as they are usually the upgradable choice when buying alloy wheels on the internet etc.

Ive been impressed with my dunlops, so ill be sticking to dunlop or Goodyear from now on. My sp200 have been very good in the dry, awesome in the wet and they even performed well in the snow. Id recommend them without a doubt!
