your best to go for a porter cable 7424 but its a bit pricey or you could get a rotary which is alot cheaper. ive herd that menzerna and megs products are the best to you use go on www.detailingworld.com (http://www.detailingworld.com) search around youll find some usefull info:) oh and if you do get one practice on a scrap peaice of metal first you dont want to burn through your clearcoat or it will need a respray hope that helps.

The state of your paint will determine what product you use to mop the car with. I personally use Farecla products on anything thats faded, got orangepeel, swirls etc on, followed by a hand glaze then a good quality wax (read expensive) :)

Make sure you use gallons of water and a relatively slow speed (rpm). Work in small areas at a time and make sure to keep the mop moving. Oh yeah....stay well clear of the edges of panels and any sharp edges such as swadge lines in the body work.....the easiest place to burn through. Do those bits by hand.

Have a look at the finish on my car to give you an idea how well Farecla products work. When I first got given my GTI it had spent its last couple of years on a building site and looked like it too!!!! It was pink in a lot of places where the sun had faded it and I had to literally scrape cement off of the paint work!!

Oh yeah...the suggestion of a practice panel is good advice!!

lol!

Yeah it's http://www.farecla.com/

Have a look round there, should give you some ideas.

It's used a lot along with 3m products by the automotive paint trade.

Other than that I use the Meguiars carnauba wax's or similar. Sonus stuff is also very good.

Good mops are generally speaking one's that don't weigh much (unlike your average angle grinder!) and have very good adjustable speed control going down to as little a couple of hundred rpm.

The reason for the lack of weight is so you dont apply too much pressure to the paint work...another sure fire way of generating unwanted heat and forkin' you paintwork.

lol!

Yeah that should be fine....remember, just apply enough pressure to stop the mop bouncing around on the panel....keep it moving and keep adding lots and lots and lots of water to help keep things cool!

...Oh yeah not sure if any has mentioned it....it can get bloody messy when you first spin the mop....compound goes everywhere!!

Best not to try it in the living room! ;)

G3 by farecla is a good all round product....even gets rid of scratches, runs & sags etc
